Joana Silva studied Biomedical Engineering with a major in Biomaterials, Biomechanics and Rehabilitation, at University of Minho, Braga, Portugal with a final grade of 16 (0-20). In her master thesis, she spent half year at the 3B¿s Research Group and the other half of the year she spent at University of Twente, studying the potential of 3D nanostructured constructs for cartilage tissue engineering applications. She was awarded in earlier 2012 with a FCT doctoral fellowship and started a PhD in natural origin polymer based multilayers as a tool for tissue engineering (TE) strategies, developing the majority of research work at ICVS/3B's Associate Laboratory, University of Minho.During the PhD, she had the opportunity to be abroad and to join Georgia Institute of Technology and this experience allowed her to study cell-materials interaction in more detail. Since 2016, she is a postdoctoral fellow at ICVS/3Bs. During her postdoc, she is very actively involved in engineering ground-breaking solutions for unmet medical problems associated with the poor bioavailability of active pharmaceutical ingredients(API's) and also on surface functionalization of biomaterials. She was a co-principal investigator in PTDC/BBB-EBB/1676/2014, in which she was planning/supervising the experimental work of students, supporting her experience as an independent researcher. J. Silva is author and co-author of 22 original papers peer-reviewed in international scientific journals with referees, 2 invited journal covers, 1 invited review paper, 4 review papers published in international scientific journals and 2 book chapters.J. Silva has 8 oral presentations in international conferences, 1 invited oral presentation, 30 poster presentations in international and national conferences, 7 publications of scientific encounters and 3 patent applications. Additionally, she is also involved in a clinical study. (StentGenomic). In April of 2017, she was also involved in the organizing committee of 16th European meeting on supercritical fluids held in Lisbon, proving experience and competences in organization and management tasks. Currently, she is also guest editor of a special issue "Engineering Biomaterials with Antimicrobial Properties" at Materials (ISSN 1996-1944).The internationalization level of the candidate research work is verifiable by the published papers with researchers from different foreign institutions and by her abroad experiences.During these years of research career,J. Silva was granted with 3 individual fellowships from FCT (BII, BD, BPD), 1 grant for research internship (FLAD), 1 short scientific mission(CA16217- 43558- Enius COST action), 1 Junior Research position (Individual Call to Scientific Employment Stimulus from FCT), actively involved in the scientific planning and execution of different funded projects, writing proposals, acquire experience in the supervision of students, planning and developing lab research work at the highest standards levels. She is eager to embrace challenges and delivery high quality work on time , which is underscored by several scientific publications, presentations and patents. Key Figures: H-index of 13 with 673 citations (Google Scholar) or 13 with 553 citations (SCOPUS).
