Carina Santos Henriques is a Ph.D. student in Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Coimbra. She has a degree in Biomedical Sciences, with a minor in Molecular Biomedicine, from the University of Aveiro (2016) and a Master's degree in Molecular Biology and Genetics from the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon (2018). During her master's degree, she carried out her research work at the Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology (CNC) of the University of Coimbra, whose work was awarded first place in the 3rd edition of BEB/Bluepharma award. Since 2019 she has been a research fellow at CNC, where she has been developing research in the field of gene therapy, with a focus on the development of viral and non-viral vectors for the treatment and modelling of neurodegenerative diseases. Since then, he has participated in different research projects, including projects in collaboration with international pharmaceutical companies (WAVE Life Sciences, UniQure, Blade Therapeutics and PTC Therapeutics), as well as in the biotechnological research infrastructure ViraVector.
