I am Ana Rita Circuncisão. I have a Bachelor Degree in Biochemistry (final classification: 15/20) and a Master Degree in Food Biochemistry (final classification: 17/20) both completed in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Aveiro. My Master thesis enclosed the evaluation of the effect of different cultivation conditions on the physicochemical composition of the green macroalgae Ulva rigida, cultivated in a land-based integrated multitrophic aquaculture system (IMTA). The main acquired skills/techniques were: extraction and chemical characterization of macronutrients; structural analysis and glycosidic linkage of polysaccharides; manage of chromatographic (GC-FID, GC-MS, HPLC-DAD) and spectrophotometric techniques (Uv-vis). After concluding my thesis, I became master research grant of the project SHARP-Seaweeds for Healthier Traditional Food Products¿ (POCI-01-0247-FEDER-003419), aiming to study the bioaccessibility and bioavailability of key nutrients in macroalgae-fortified food products. This fellowship gave me the opportunity to do two different internships at the University of Santiago de Compostela and at Instituto de La Grasa (Seville), where I studied the bioaccessibility and bioavailability of macro- and trace minerals and pigments, respectively, from macroalgae-fortified food products. After that, I became a master research grant under the project AlgaPhlor - brown macroalgae phlorotannins: from bioavailability to the development of functional foods (PTDC/BAA-AGR/31015/2017), aiming to obtain phlorotannins-rich extracts from several brown macroalgae following steps of purification and characterization. Within all of these work, I have learning a lot of techniques and procedures that I am sure will be useful in the future. Up to day, I am a PhD student (SFRH/BD/147321/2019) in the PhD Programme of Food Science and Technology and Nutrititon at LAQV-REQUIMTE Laboratory, University of Aveiro (2019-2024). Research Interests: - Food Chemistry and Biochemistry - Natural compounds from seaweeds and other biological matrices with potential biological activities - Analytical chemistry: chromatography, mass spectrometry and other techniques that allow to analyse different natural compounds from seaweeds and other biological matrices. - Food ingredients and their potential use in food, pharmaceutical and cosmetic industry - Carbohydrate chemistry and their potential biological activities
