I completed a bachelor's degree in Biology (2014), a Master's degree in Toxicology and Ecotoxicology (2016) and a PhD in Biology (2022; granted by Foundation for Science and Technology) at University of Aveiro (UA), Portugal. My master's thesis and doctoral dissertation were focused on the development of environmentally safer Plant Protection Products (PPPs), considering formulation options (i.e. mixtures and application rates of active ingredients, as well as the specific type of formulation). Specifically, since my Master I have been evaluating the effects of pesticide combinations to both non-target and target biota to deeply understand on the one hand their safety (non-target organisms), and on the other hand their efficacy (target pests/weeds). My specializing interests include pesticides, mixture of chemicals, environmental risk assessment and neurotoxicology. In 2019, I did a 6-months training (Feb-Jul) at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Yeshiva University, under the scope of the Fulbright Scholarship Program. During this period, I had the opportunity to work with Professor Michael Aschner's research team, acquiring relevant knowledge about the use of the model organism Caenorhabditis elegans in neurotoxicology, which was important for the implementation of this model in Physiotoxicology Lab (UA) when back to Portugal. Since then, I have been applying this technical know-how to environmental studies by assessing for instance the neurotoxicity of PPPs in C. elegans. In addition, I have been collaborating on the implementation of tests with non-target arthropods (NTAs) of PPPs, and on the environmental risk assessment of a biopesticide to standard organisms from the terrestrial compartment and NTAs, at the University of Coimbra as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow since August 2022. I published 11 papers in ISI Journals, 8 of them as first author.
