My research broadly focuses on elucidating the role of phytochemicals in the regulation of plant growth, with the aim to induce resistance to diverse biotic and abiotic stresses, but also to improve the nutritional quality of plant foods. I’m specifically interested in physiological and biochemical characterization experiments on crops grown in different climate change scenarios, including elevation of carbon dioxide and temperature, ozone, water deficit, heat wave and disease attacks. To achieve this goal, I’ve acquired valuable expertise in developing methods for the extraction and quantification of phytochemicals. More recently, I began applying metabolomic, lipidomic and proteomic techniques to understanding pathways of primary and secondary metabolites formation in plants, and their physiological and nutritional functions.
