Ouissal Assila (OA) obtained her doctorate from the University Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah (FSDM), Higher School of Technology (EST-Fez, Morocco), in 2023. The title of her Ph.D. Thesis is "Treatment of organic pollutants in aqueous medium on Eco-environment materials by adsorption and catalytic oxidation processes." Her research focused on the use of eco-friendly materials for removing organic pollutants from aqueous media through adsorption and catalytic oxidation, presenting efficient approaches for addressing water contamination challenges. During her doctoral studies, OA conducted a one-year research stay at the University of Minho-Braga, Portugal, under the Erasmus+ Programme International Credit Mobility. She also assisted and collaborated with exchange Ph.D., predoctoral, and postdoctoral researchers during their stays at Minho, working within the Centre of Chemistry and the Centre of Biological Engineering. These collaborations resulted in joint publications with various international institutions. This mobility opportunity allowed her to present her findings at three international congresses and publish four scientific articles. Additionally, she was deeply involved in the characterization of eco-materials and their application in advanced water treatment processes. OA’s scientific contributions include 13 articles (h-index 9), with 2 additional manuscripts currently in progress. Her research focuses on the synthesis of low-cost catalysts for enhanced performance in advanced oxidation processes (AOPs), such as the mineralization of industrial textile effluents and their potential reuse within the same treatment systems. Her articles have been presented at numerous international conferences, contributing to the dissemination of her innovative findings. Alongside her academic achievements, OA has participated in teaching practical lectures across various units in Chemical, Catalysis, Materials, and Environmental Engineering courses at both bachelor’s and master’s levels at EST-Fez. She has also supervised and mentored several undergraduate, master’s, and Ph.D. students at her home institution and the University of Minho. These mentorship roles have fostered collaborative publications and strengthened her international research network. Her research career began at the Laboratory of Applied Chemistry and Condensed Matter Chemistry, focusing on raw materials and industrial process analysis. She later developed expertise in water treatment, catalysis, and sustainability while working at the Laboratory of Catalysis and Materials (FEUP-Portugal) as part of the GIATEX project. In this capacity, she specialized in process modulation for textile wastewater recycling, pilot unit installations, and conducting life cycle assessments (LCA) and economic viability studies. OA is actively involved in scientific dissemination and has contributed to the writing and organization of research projects. Her research interests include sustainable environmental practices, catalyst design, oxidation processes, and water treatment technologies. She is dedicated to developing innovative processes for pollutant removal and water recycling, aligning her work with global environmental conservation priorities.
