Isabel Fernandes graduated in Chemical Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP) in July 2018. She started her research career in September 2017 at the Laboratory of Separation and Reaction Engineering - Laboratory of Catalysis and Materials (LSRE-LCM). In 2019, she started her PhD in Chemical and Biological Engineering at FEUP with the thesis entitled "Multiphase flow in NETmix: mixing studies and applications", which was concluded in November 2023. During two years of her PhD, she was an Invited Assistant at the Department of Engineering Physics - FEUP), teaching theoretical-practical classes of Physics I and Physics II. Her research was focused on developing the most efficient configuration of mesosized mixers for handling multiphase processes with large heat and mass transfer rates. A particular application of these enhanced reactors was for continuous CO2 hydrates production, offering a solution for capturing and storing CO2 from industrial emissions, as well as contributing to advancements in water desalination techniques. She uses Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and process simulation models in her studies. Currently, she is a junior contract researcher of the ATE - Aliança para a Transição Energética project (PRR - C644914747-00000023) at LSRE-LCM, and her recent studies focus on the integrated modelling of flow and electrochemistry to design a highly efficient electrochemical cell with enhanced mass, heat and charge transfer to introduce an efficient technology for hydrogen production. The main research areas are multiphase flow, mixing, CFD, process simulation, heat transfer, mass transfer, electrochemistry.
