Tomás Parreira completed his Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Coimbra in July 2023 with an overall grade of 16. He received a merit award from the university for being one of the best students during the course. In 2023, he completed his Master's thesis in Mechanical Engineering with a grade of 19 (out of 20). The dissertation addressed the identification of sheet metal constitutive parameters using metamodeling of the biaxial tensile test. The quality of his work led to the publication of a paper in an international journal. Complementary to its academic path, he searched to develop extracurricular skills, namely with the participation in summer internships. In 2022 he integrated a team of researchers in Bold Robotics in the project “E-Forest” of an autonomous electric forest vehicle. His role was to develop an efficient cooling system for the vehicle battery pack. In 2021, Tomás got to know the industrial ambience in another summer internship in a metalworking industry where he responded to specific requirements, from the 3D project to the forming processes until the end product. In 2023 (after the graduation) Tomás started his scientific career with a Research Grant, after winning an international contest, integrated in the project Realform (Stochastic Modelling and Uncertainty Quantification in Sheet Metal Forming Processes). In the framework of this project, he studied the uncertainty in the forming process of a square cup using the finite element analysis (FEA). For such, he developed software, in Python language, dedicated to generating the different sources of uncertainty of the process and performed simulations in the in-house finite element code DD3IMP. He developed algorithms to analyze and compile large amounts of data and perform sensitivity analyzes. From this work, he published another first author paper regarding a sensitivity study of the square cup forming process and will present a conference paper, about the influence of the blank thickness uncertainty on the forming results, in one of the most prestigious conferences of his area (ESAFORM 2024). In addition to his participation in the national projects "RealForm" and "E-Forest", he integrates an international project in scientific cooperation between Portugal and Germany on "Numerical and experimental study on friction and wear in sheet metal forming", whose main objective is the comprehensive analysis of the complex contact conditions occurring in sheet metal forming processes. Under these projects, he is tutoring two students with an initiation research fellowship and a MSc student who is working on his dissertation. In summary, from his academic career and research work, Tomás has participated in the publication of 5 international articles (2 under revision) and one conference paper. Recently, he was invited to be the topic coordinator of a special issue on the application of metamodeling in sheet metal forming processes. These indicators clearly demonstrate the quality of his work in the areas of machine learning techniques, FEA, data science-oriented programming languages (Python), sensitivity and uncertainty analysis.
