Luís Passarinha was graduated in Chemistry Engineering in 1998 by Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Portugal. Subsequently between 2001/2003, he was a fellowship in the Project POCTI/BIO/43620/1999 entitled "Development of hydrophobic interaction chromatography media for plasmid purification" and developed research associated with the master's project, in the optimization of the fermentation processes for the production of plasmid DNA for gene therapy and DNA vaccines, carried out at the Biochemistry laboratories in UBI and in the Center for Biological and Chemical Engineering, Instituto Superior Técnico, Lisbon. In 2003 he completes the Chemistry Master, UBI. In the begging of 2008 he finished the PhD in Biochemistry, UBI, developing new production and purification methodologies for the isolation of Human Soluble Catechol-O-Methyltransferase. From 2009 until 2024 Luís Passarinha worked as an assistant professor Faculdade de Ciências da Saúde (UBI) and in august 2024 he became an associate professor in Biomedicine at the same institution. In 2018 he was invited to integrate the research unit UCIBIO (New University of Lisbon) that holds the highest classification of Exceptional/Excellent, ranked within the top three in Biomolecular Sciences. UCIBIO integrates the recently approved Associated Laboratory, Institute for Health and Bioeconomy i4HB, rated as Excellent. To sum up, Luis focuses his main research on: a) production, recovery and purification of therapeutic proteins; b) stability screenings and crystallization of soluble and integral membrane proteins and c) proteomics characterization of human matrices such as vitreous humor, plasma and urine, d) exploring design of experiment tools for screening or optimization of specific conditions used in different bioprocess steps ORCID: (http://orcid.org/0000-0001-6910-7576). From 2006 until now, he has published 80 articles (of which 45 as corresponding author) in international peer-reviewed journals with more than 881 citations, h-index of 20 (SCOPUS database), was the main editor of a book on Advanced Structural Biology , published nine book chapters and has a patent. During this period he delivered more than 50 and 70, respectively, oral communications and posters at national/international scientific meetings. He participated and participates as a research member in multidisciplinary scientific teams in several projects in the scientific fields of production, separation and biophysical and structural characterization of human proteins with therapeutic relevance. Specifically, between July 2013 / November 2014, he was the main investigator of an Exploratory Project entitled "Biosynthesis, Purification and Biointeraction of Human Catechol-O-methyltransferase Soluble Protein with Parkinson's Disease Inhibitors", with reference from the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT, Portugal): EXPL/BBB-BQB/0960/2012. Additionally, he has extensive experience in creating network projects with private partners, financed by the UCIBIO, CICS-UBI collaboration protocols and pharmaceutical companies. Regarding his experience as a scientific advisor, he has so far completed the supervision of 46 master's theses in the scientific domains of Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Biomedical Sciences, and Pharmaceutical Sciences and has been scientific advisor for 3 doctoral theses in the 3rd cycle of studies Biochemistry and Biomedicine and scientific co-supervisor of 2 doctoral theses, both from the 3rd cycle of studies in Biochemistry (5 already completed). At the moment he has 3 doctoral orientations in progress, financed by the FCT's annual doctoral scholarship program.
