I am a medical doctor, specialized in Allergy and Clinical Immunology (2014), with a PhD in Immunology (2018). Currently I am working as a clinician (since 2022) and as Co-Health director (since 2023) at GAT: Portuguese Activist Group on Treatments, founded in 2001, a structure of individual membership and cooperation between people from different communities and organizations affected by HIV and AIDS, sexually transmitted infections, viral hepatitis, and tuberculosis.GAT is a non governamental, non-profit organization with Health purposes and headquartered in Lisbon. GAT advocates for legal and policy changes that positively affect the health, rights, and quality of life of people living with HIV or at risk of becoming infected. GAT intends to contribute to the objectives of UNAIDS, as well as the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, mainly the third, providing answers that allow influencing the goals that are within its reach through a strategic intervention in key areas of public health policies with the involvement of the communities most affected and vulnerable to these infections in the provision of care and the definition of best practices and policies, in full respect of human rights, good practices, and international policies. GAT's activities are based on the following areas of intervention: prevention; early diagnosis and access to health services; treatment; discrimination and Stigma; knowledge Production. In my previous role, I worked as a post-doctoral researcher at the Human Immunodeficiency & Immune Reconstitution Lab at the Instituto de Medicina Molecular João Lobo Antunes (Faculty of Medicine of Lisbon University) (2018-2022). Moreover, I have published several papers focusing on clinical and immunological aspects of viral infections, acquired and congenital immune deficiencies, and autoimmune diseases. I have also contributed to book chapters on basic immunology. In addition, I have had the opportunity to supervise BSc and MSc students and serve as a jury member for their MSc theses. To enhance my knowledge and skills, I have attended courses in diverse areas including Biosafety Level 3, biostatistics, and R programming. I have received grants for my research projects, such as the Gilead Geneses grant (2019) as a principal investigator, which supported my research on the role of myeloid cells in the different courses of HIV-1 and HIV-2 infection. Furthermore, I was awarded a Research 4COVID-19 grant from the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) in 2020 for a project on myeloid cell activation and phenotype in SARS-COV-2 infected patients with severe symptoms.
