I could define myself as a early modernist who works on cultural and religious history from a gender perspective. Since its beginnings, my research has been at the intersection of literature and history. In my work, I used literary and documentary primary sources and methodologies that are specific to these two disciplines: transcriptions and textual editions, description and commentary of documents, comparatism and global analysis having in mind the contexts and actors, subjects versus structures, close reading as well as distant reading, literary analysis, thematic content analysis, discourse analysis and lexicography. In my doctoral thesis, I address two other disciplinary areas, which are anthropology (of religion and the body) and gender studies. As a literary historian, I was mostly focused on texts, but after my Ph.D I started to think Early Modern women in terms of material productions. My core research interests are Early Modern female spirituality, girls’ education, the Ursuline’s educational program (and a comparative work with the French Ursulines) and representations of the female body. I have also worked on Religious Studies, and more specifically, in Carmelite spirituality and action in colonial Brazil.
