José Rodrigo da Silva

Rodrigo Silva completed the PhD in Biology in 2018 by Universidade de Évora, the Master in Agronomy - Soil Science in 2013 by Universidade Federal Rural do Rio de Janeiro, and the bachelor¿s degree - five years-degree - in Agronomic Engineer in 2011 by Universidade Federal Rural do Rio de Janeiro. Rodrigo Silva is author/co-author of 4 peer-reviewed publications, 1 book chapter, and several posters in national and international scientific meetings. He is a reviewer for 4 scientific journals. Participated as team member in various research projects in the areas of Symbiosis, Soil Microbiology, Legume-Rhizobium Interaction, Mycorrhizal fungi, Plant Protection, and Human Pathogens. From 2019 to April 2022, Rodrigo Silva was working in a project aiming to unveil mechanisms underlying interactions between commensal bacteria, the host, and Streptococcus pneumoniae, in order to develop new strategies to combat this human pathogen. During this time he has been acquiring and developing skills to address his research question, namely through the attendance of meetings and courses, such as the ¿Spanish & Portuguese Advanced Optical Microscopy Meeting¿ and the workshop in Optical Microscopy and Image Analysis using ImageJ. Rodrigo has been developing essential teaching and leadership skills that are truly important to become an independent researcher. He has been teaching at the Master level in the Medical Microbiology course and has been involved in activities of student supervision - is currently co-supervising a master student and has co-supervised two undergraduate students. Rodrigo Silva has been invited to be chair of the session Microbial Strategies at 10th and 11th ITQB NOVA PhD Students' Meetings and has also been involved with outreach activities, such as ITQB Open Day, FIC.A (Festival Internacional de Ciência) and Encontro Ciência, in order to link science and society.
