Mario Cunha - MC (Male), received a B.S., a M.Sc. and a PhD degrees in Agrarian Sciences and is currently an Associate Professor with habilitation at Sciences Faculty - University of Porto (FCUP) and senior researcher at Institute for Systems and Computer Engineering, Technology and Science (INESC-TEC), TEC4AGRO-FOOD, Centre for Robotics in Industry and Intelligent Systems (CRIIS). He also collaborates formally with the Geo-Space Sciences Research Centre (CICGE) and was visiting researcher at the international researcher centres: Alterra - Wageningen UR, NL (3 months) and Centre for Agri-Environmental Research - CAER, University of Reading, UK (6 months). MC¿s research interests include various agronomy and agricultural engineering topics mainly focused on Crop digital phenotyping, Precision agriculture, Remote sensing applications (climate change included), Crop modelling (statistical or process-based), Crop yield forecast and Agricultural machinery. He represents the INESCTEC in the European Plant Phenotyping-Research Infrastructure (EPP-RI), which acts in articulation with the EMPHASIS project (https://emphasis.plant-phenotyping.eu/). The excellence of his research was recognized internationally by the 'Syngenta Innovation in Agriculture Award' in 2007s with the work 'Spray_image App® for automatic evaluation of crop spray quality' and at Nacional Entrepreneurship and Innovation Award 8th edition ¿Caixa Agrícola¿ ¿ Agriculture 4.0. Regarding scientific publications, MC was the (co)author of more than 170 scientific publications (Orcid), including 120 scientific papers (about 70% in Q1) published in journals listed in JCR-WoS and/or SCOPUS (h-index 30) and 10 peer-reviewed scientific book chapters. MC is/was the principal investigator or institutional leader of 18 research projects and participated in the team of 28 R&D projects with different funding sources such as FCT, H2020, P2020, Aga Khan, LIFE, PRR. Highlight the MC¿s participation, through INESCTEC, in the EU-funded large-scale project, ¿DEMETER - Building an Interoperable, Data-Driven, Innovative and Sustainable European Agri-Food Sector, topic DT-ICT-08-2019 - Agricultural digital integration platforms and PI of the projet OMICBOTS - High-Throughput Integrative Omic-Robots Platform for a Next Generation Physiology-based Precision Viticulture (https://www.fc.up.pt/omicbots/). He has the record of intellectual property of the Spray_image App® (Copyright transferred to Syngenta-Basel), the MaChoice® program, the ACFertS® program and recently the patent SpecTOM - Metabolomics Tomography Spectroscopy System (EPO60978383 P1151.8 WO) and 4.2. Smart Scissors (cod. 20232005509767 cod. 0198). He maintains consistent (>5 years) agronomic technology transfer programs with 5 international institutions/companies and 3 Portuguese institutions/companies. MC is/was the evaluator of several projects (R&D) applicants for funding (National/International), scholarship evaluation programs of PhD and Posdoc (e.g ERASMUS Mundus, FCT PhD grants), integrates the editorial board of two journals listed in WoS-JCR and is reviewer assiduous of >30 scientific journals listed in the base JCR-WoS, having reviewed more than 100 papers. MC is In terms of academics, MC supervise(d) 5 post-doctoral grants, 17 PhD students and 42 M.Sc. students, teaches courses in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd cycles in the areas of agronomy, food science and remote sensing, is Co-Director of the M.Sc. in Agronomy and the Director of the PhD program in Agrarian Sciences at FCUP.
