Francisco X. Nascimento, Ph.D. is an applied microbiology enthusiast and a versatile and motivated researcher that tackles several aspects of microbial ecology and biotechnology, as well as plant/algae-bacteria interactions. During his research career published 42 articles in international peer-reviewed journals (h index=22) and two book chapters. He also actively participated in the development of biological products based on unique plant-growth-promoting bacteria for agricultural applications. Francisco employs a multidisciplinary methodology rooted in applied microbiology, bioprocess engineering, microbial ecology, genomics, the study of eukaryote-microbe interactions, evolutionary biology, and bioinformatics as the foundation for his research activities. In his professional activities, he participated in several national and international projects, worked in several labs (Portugal, Canada, Brazil, and the Netherlands), and interacted with several collaborators in co-authorship of scientific papers. He currently supervises 6 Ph.D. students, and 1 MSc Student. He has supervised 3 researchers and 1 MSc student, and co-supervised 1 MSc student; participated in teaching activities and as a jury of dissertations (n=5); presented his work as an invited speaker, participated as Guest Editor, and reviewer for several international peer-reviewed journals (n=23) and international project proposals. Currently, he is affiliated with Instituto de Biologia Experimental e Biotecnológica (IBET), acting as Principal Investigator and managing the FCT-funded project (PhycoµBiome: Understanding and harnessing the power of the microalgae microbiome aiming the maximization of marine microalgae productivity) and as a Lead researcher in Tec4Green project, participating in the development of biological solutions for plant protection.
