Gonçalo completed his Bachelor's Degree in Molecular Biology and Genetics in 2015 at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon, following a Master's Degree in Molecular Biology and Genetics in 2018 from the same institution. Currently he is pursuing a PhD in Biology at the Institute of Biosystems and Integrative Sciences at the University of Lisbon within the Grapevine Pathogen Systems Lab. His PhD main goal is understanding the incompatible interaction between grapevine and downy mildew through the investigation of the role of lipids in grapevine defense responses against pathogens. This research aims to develop novel and sustainable strategies, based on lipids, for managing grapevine diseases. This investigation employs a systems biology approach incorporating lipidomics, transcriptomics, and bioinformatics. Up to date, Gonçalo published 13 peer-reviewed articles and engaged in three research projects.
