Helena Ramos is a researcher at the FOODinteract group from the Associated Laboratory LAQV/REQUIMTE, focused on the field of food sciences. She holds a BSc (2020) and specialization (2021) in Biochemistry from the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto and an MSc in Quality Control - Water and Food specialty from the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Porto (2023). She achieved maximal classification (20 out of 20) in her MSc defense with her dissertation on “Toxicological Interactions of Food Contaminants in Neurotoxicity In Vitro.” She addressed the effect of simple mixtures of FCs at realistic levels and applied additivity models to study toxicological FCs interactions in neuronal cells. Since 2022, she has been a researcher fellow at LAQV-REQUIMTE, where she collaborates in DIETxPOSOME, SALIVA+ and MYCOFISH national projects. Her research has focused on human cell-based assays to study the effect of bioactive compounds, dietary contaminants, and whole meals on health, including intestinal inflammation and neurotoxicity. She is also a member of the international network INFOGEST, where she has been involved in initiatives to standardize a cell-based intestinal transport model (recently distinguished at the 8th International Conference on Food Digestion) and participated in an interlaboratory study to determine protein in vitro digestibility in dairy products. Regarding scientific production, she has two peer-reviewed papers (Q1) and three datasets and is the author/co-author of multiple presentations at national and international conferences. She has seen her work with food contaminants recognized, having received best poster awards at the 14th and 16th editions of the Young Researchers Meeting of U.Porto and the 8th International Conference on Food Digestion.
