Researcher at the Centro de Biotecnologia e Química Fina (CBQF) and Invited Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Biotechnology, Universidade Católica Portuguesa (UCP), Portugal. Academically, he has a Ph.D. in Biological Sciences (2018, Universidad Nacional de Rosario, Argentina) and a B.Sc. in Biotechnology (2013, Universidad Nacional del Litoral, Argentina). In 2023, he was awarded the first position in the Individual Call to Scientific Employment Stimulus - 6th Edition in the category of Assistant Researcher in the Animal and Veterinary Sciences and Agro-Food Biotechnology panel. His main expertise is in green chemistry, peptidomics, and nanotechnology for the food and nutraceutical industries. The research can be summarized into (i) development, compositional characterization, and validation of bioactive ingredients (proteins and biopeptides, antioxidants, prebiotics, and other phytochemicals) for food and nutraceuticals; (ii) by-product and new resources valorization through bioprocesses and green chemistry to obtain molecules/extracts with antioxidant, antihypertensive, antidiabetic, anti-inflammatory, anticancer activities, and safety to be explored as high-added-value bioproducts in different high-value fields; (iii) studies of bioaccessibility and bioavailability in the gastrointestinal tract, as well as modulation of the intestinal microbiota, using static and dynamic in vitro models; (iv) application of the above research developments to other biotechnological fields such as nanotechnology. Among other relevant activities, some are highlighted: Coordinator of the Research & Innovation Program of Smart Waste Portugal Young Professionals Association (SWYP, January - December 2022); Team Leader of the CBQF's Advanced Training Task Force (June 2022 - December 2023); Team Leader of the Social Engagement Committee of the CBQF's Bioactives and Bioproducts Research Group (March - December 2023); Guest Editor of the journal Molecules (ISSN 1420-3049, since 2019); Guest Editor of the journal Catalysts (EISSN 2073-4344, since 2021); Member of SWYP (since 2020); Member of the European Association for Cancer Research (since 2023), the International Scientific Association for Probiotics and Prebiotics (ISAPP, since 2014), and the Sigma Xi Scientific Research Honor Society (since 2021). During his scientific trajectory, he published several papers (currently more than 30 papers) in refereed international journals, authored 5 chapters in handbooks on these topics, and was inventor of 4 patents. He supervises(ed) 2 Ph.D. thesis in Biotechnology (1 since 2022 funded by FCT, and 1 since 2024), 1 M.Sc. in Food Biotechnology (since 2022), 4 M.Sc. in Microbiology (1 since 2019, 2 since 2022, 1 since 2023), 4 M.Sc. in Biomedical Engineering (1 since 2024, 3 from ERASMUS 2022-2023), 2 B.Sc. in Microbiology students in their final project (since 2024), 3 B.Sc. in Bioengineering students in their final project (2020), and 1 international Ph.D. training scholarship (2021-2022). Additionally, he is the Principal Investigator (PI) in 1 competitively funded research and development project. He was Co-Principal in 1 project and has collaborated with multiple Universities and Research Centers, companies, and Associations/technology clusters.
