My scientific work has been focused on the synthesis of new organic compounds and coordination/organometallic complexes of transition (manganese, iron, cobalt, nickel and copper) and main group (potassium and boron) elements. The transition metal complexes have been mainly applied in homogeneous catalysis (e.g. hydrofunctionalization, click-chemistry and polymerization) and their reaction mechanisms, whereas the main group complexes have been applied as emissive layers of light-emitting diodes (LEDs). Aside from the synthetic and catalytic work, I also possess hands-on experience in several characterization techniques, namely NMR spectroscopy, single crystal X-ray diffraction, Gel Permeation Chromatography, IR-spectroscopy, UV-Visible spectroscopy, Fluorescence Spectroscopy and, to some extent, DFT calculations and . I have also briefly dealt with techniques such as Cyclic Voltammetry, Differential Scanning Calorimetry, SQUID Magnetometry, Mössbauer Spectroscopy and mass spectrometry. After obtaining my PhD degree, I have been scientifically engaged in the synthesis and spectroscopic characterization of new copper- and boron-based photoactive molecules. I have also supervised several young researchers (BSc and MSc level, including a MSc thesis), national and international, to the several techniques required to their experimental work, as well as conceptual guidance throughout their stays in the group. I have also performed several tasks related with laboratory management and maintenance. Most recently, I have been interested in developing new homogeneous catalysts toward the valorization of carbon dioxide.
