Fausto Lessa F. Pizzol is a seasoned bassist with over 25 years of experience as a performer, arranger, and composer. He holds a Ph.D. in Music from the University of Aveiro, where he specialized in Performance with an emphasis on Artistic Research. Currently pursuing postdoctoral studies at the same institution, he investigates how learning principles from the Ecological Psychology framework can enhance creativity, embodied knowledge, and motor skill development in musicians. As a contributor to the Institute of Ethnomusicology (Inet-md) and its Creation, Performance, and Artistic Research Group, he actively shares his insights through national and international conferences, as well as publications in academic journals, book chapters, and expositions . His first solo album, "Portfolio", released in 2024, showcases original compositions that reflects the creative application of the findings from his Ph.D. thesis, an artistic research on the polyphonic potentialities of the electric bass. His accolades include: [1] a Capes (Brazil)/Fipse (USA) scholarship in 2008 for the 'Music Alive' project, Brazil's first exchange program exclusively for undergraduate music students, completed with honors at East Carolina University (USA); [2] an Academic Merit Scholarship in 2016 for his master’s in music - Performance at the University of Aveiro (UA); and [3] a FCT PhD Scholarship in 2021. He also pursued an extensive range of postgraduate (lato sensu) and extension courses in education, focusing on the arts and music. His teaching career is distinguished by his leadership roles, including six years as a faculty member and coordinator at the Espírito Santo College of Music (Fames) and a year as a guest lecturer at the Federal University of Espírito Santo (UFES). He also served as the pedagogical coordinator in Music for the 'Circuito Cultural' project, a major public initiative that engaged over 1,000 participants annually across Vitória, the capital of Espírito Santo. Presently, his work is focused on interdisciplinary studies within Artistic Research, where he bridges the fields of Music Performance, Ecological Psychology, and Music Education. His approach aims to develop innovative pedagogical strategies to advance music performance studies, employing active methodologies that foster experimentation, creativity, and learning autonomy in performers.
