Amélia P Hutchinson. Completed the Licenciatura in Filologia Germânica in 1973/07 by Universidade de Lisboa Faculdade de Letras, a Master in Portuguese Studies in 1984/12 by The University of Manchester Faculty of Humanities, for which she received a commendation, and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Portuguese Medieval Studies in 2002 by King's College London. Published 9 articles in journals. Has 6 sections of books and 2 books: “Portuguese: An Essential Grammar”(Routledge, 1996, 2003 and 2019), and “Portuguese as a World Language”(Pearson, 2006 and 2012). Has received 1 major project funding award to coordinate and edit the first translation of Fernão Lopes's chronicles into English. This was published in 5 volumes with the general title of "The Chronicles of Fernão Lopes" (Boydell & Brewer/Tamesis, 2023). Participates as Principal investigator in 1 project, the Fernão Lopes Portal, Institute of Medieval Studies, NOVA University, Lisbon. She has presented papers at Congresses in Portugal, Great Britain, and the United States of America. Her career also developed at universities in Portugal, Great Britain and the United States of America teaching Portuguese as a second language. While at the University of Salford, GB, she was coordinator of the Erasmus Program, responsible for the exchange of 146 students and 6 lecturers with universities in 5 European countries. She has taught courses in Translation and Interpreting and has worked as simultaneous interpreter at major Congresses in Manchester and London, at the Queen Elizabeth Hall. She works in the area of Humanities with emphasis on Languages and Literatures.
