Leonor Correia concluded her master's degree in Bioengineering in 2020 in the Faculty of Engineering of University of Porto with a final classification of 17. In 2021, she enrolled in the PhD program Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cells (TERM&SC), on which she is currently working. Throughout her master, she got involved in research internships, both national and international: - In 2018, she joined the "Microenvironments for New Therapies" research group in the Instituto de Investigação e Inovação em Saúde (i3S) in Porto. During this volunteer internship, she followed their research on the development of immunomodulatory 3D microenvironments to promote bone tissue regeneration and repair. - In 2019, she did a 5-month ERASMUS+ internship at the Laboratorio Universitario di Ricerca Medica (LURM) in Verona, Italy, where she consolidated expertise in characterizing signaling transduction properties at a single cell level using phospho-specific flow cytometry. This allowed her to write a monograph about the role of canonical Wnt/ ß-catenin signaling pathway in MSC during bone regeneration. - In 2020, she started her dissertation project in i3S, entitled "Pre-vascularized microgels as advanced therapeutic tools and 3D in vitro models". The work was developed in the Bioengineered 3D Microenvironments research group, in the scope of the ANGIONICHE project, which purpose is to create a new cell therapy approach for therapeutic vascularization guided by biomaterials. Specifically, she explored a successful microsystem, based on prevascularized microgels, that can be used as an injectable pro-angiogenic therapy.
