Dora Pinho finished her Biochemistry degree in 1995, at the Faculty of Sciences - University of Porto. She pursued her studies in Bioinorganic Chemistry, and obtained her PhD in Chemistry in 2002, at the same University. In 2003, she became a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute of Pharmacology and Therapeutics, Faculty of Medicine - University of Porto (FMUP), studying the interaction between cardiovascular and pain control systems, under the leadership of António Albino-Teixeira. Since 2007, along with her research activities, DP has been actively engaged in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, with responsibility for several lectures, practices and tutorials in the Integrated Master Degree in Medicine, the Master Degree in Neurobiology, and Doctoral Programs in Neurosciences and in Pharmacology & Toxicology. Currently, DP continues to develop research and postgraduate teaching activities at FMUP, and integrates the Local Animal Welfare Body. During her career, she has published 24 articles in peer-reviewed journals, and 1 book chapter. She has supervised/co-supervised 1 PhD and 5 MSc dissertations. She has also coordinated 3 funded R&D projects, and integrated the research team of 8 others, 3 of which as supervisor, and participated in various examining committees and review panels. In her scientific outputs, she has co-authored with 53 collaborators. DP's current research interests include pathophysiology and pharmacological targets on chronic pain and other central nervous system diseases, and her latest research project focuses on the role of neuroinflammation and redox imbalance in the pathophysiology of neuropathic pain, with special focus on the therapeutic potential of specialized proresolving mediators and NADPH oxidase inhibitors. Other areas of interest include renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system, oxidative stress, in vivo pharmacology, animal models of cardiometabolic diseases and chronic pain, behavioral evaluation of pain responses in rodents, animal welfare and laboratory animal sciences, experimental design and statistical analysis of biomedical experiments.
