Having graduated in Chemical Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) in 2007, I joined Kemet Electronics, a world-renowned capacitors manufacturer, as an R&D Engineer. In 2010, I returned to IST as a research fellow to engage in research projects related to computational modeling of carbon nanostructures and ionic liquids using molecular dynamics. I had published 5 papers as first author and 1 book chapter before obtaining, in 2015, a FCT PhD grant. In 2019, I received a PhD degree in Chemistry from IST, having developed my PhD thesis in a cutting-edge research field that explores the intersection of carbon chemistry, emergent nanomaterials, and computational mechanics. After my Ph.D., I was involved in 2 projects as a contracted post-doc researcher. My expertise in computational modeling facilitated the co-supervision of one doctoral thesis on doped graphene/metal and polymer nanocomposites and the mentoring of two more Ph.D. theses involving MD. In 2022, I was granted a 6-year Junior Researcher contract at IST through the FCT's Individual Call to Scientific Employment Stimulus, but I chose to join the Institute for Polymers and Composites (IPC) as an Assistant Researcher on a permanent contract. At IPC, I am pioneering a new research line on surface interactions in novel nanostructured biopolymeric composites through computational simulations, but I am also interested in the rheological properties of biopolymers such as Carrageenan and PHAs. I have an h-index of 9 (426 citations), with 20 papers in ISI international peer-reviewed (Q1) journals (13 as first author and 7 as corresponding author), 2 book chapters, and numerous contributions to international conferences. I am supervising 4 MSc students, teaching 6 graduate courses at the Polymer Engineering Department, and have served as main examiner in one PhDs defense and in one MSc dissertation defense.
