Degree in Biological Sciences in 1987 from the University of Santiago de Compostela, and PhD degree in Biological Sciences (1993) at the same University. My doctoral thesis was focused on the metabolism of cerebral serotonin in mammals and the influence of melatonin. Thereafter, I did a post-doctoral stay at the University of Strasbourg (France), in the associated unit CNRS-URA 1332 "Neurobiologie des fonctions rythmiques et saisonnieres", under the direction of Dr. Paul Pevet, granted by the Training and Mobility of Researchers program (EU) for 24 months. In 1996, I returned to the University of Santiago de Compostela with a 12-month grant from this EU research program. In 1998 I joined as a temporary associate professor at the University of Vigo and in 2003 I was appointed Associate Professor of Physiology in the Dept. of Functional Biology and Health Sciences in the Faculty of Biology. At that time I began my research stage in the group "Fish Physiology and its application in aquaculture", remaining from this date as co-head of the group together with Professor J.L. Soengas. My research focused in the physiology of teleost, developing the following lines: "Rhythmic regulation of the synthesis of pineal and gastrointestinal melatonin", "Regulation of intermediate metabolism during the osmotic adaptation and hormonal regulation. Integrative responses", "Neuroendocrine and metabolic effects of aquatic contaminants in fish", "Mechanisms of the circadian system and environmental regulation of daily rhythms in physiology and behavior", "Stress effects on fish physiology and behavior and fish welfare", "Neuroendocrine and metabolic regulation of food intake in fish. Interaction with stress". The last one is the predominant today. Throughout my career I have participated in 2 research projects granted by the EU reasearch programmes, 7 research projects granted by the Spanish Government (Main Researcher in 4), 10 projects supported by the Regional Government (Xunta de Galicia) and 4 projects supported by other official organisms. My research background involves 152 articles in SCI journals, mostly cataloged in the first quartile (Q1) of its category (82 articles). In the last ten years (2011-2021), already within the field of fish physiology, I have published 69 articles, 39 of them in Q1 journals. At present I have an h-index of 36 (4860 citations, source: Scopus). Some of the journals in which I have published are as follows: Journal of Experimental Biology (10 articles), Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology A (6), Aquaculture (5), PLoS One (5), Frontiers in Endocrinology (4), Frontiers in Physiology (4), Hormones and Behavior (3), Journal of Molecular Endocrinology (2), among others. I have also published several articles in other prestigious journals, including American Journal of Physiology (5), General and Comparative Endocrinology (9), Peptides (3), Chronobiology International (3) and Journal of Neuroendocrinology (4), among others. The current trajectory of the group in which I am co-responsible is to obtain 7-8 publications/year in journals with an impact index > 2.5. I ofetn have collaborations with national (Dr. M.J. Delgado at the Complutense University, Dr. J.M. Cerdá-Reverter at the IATS-CSIC) and international groups (Dr. S. Panserat atINRA-StPée-France, Dr. L. Valente at the University of Porto, Portugal; Dr. José L. Muñoz at the University of Los Lagos, Chile). I am a project evaluator in national adn international research agencies, and a reviewer of numerous scientific journals (included in SCI) in the field of aquatic toxicology and comparative physiology. At the academic level, I was the Suprevisor of 10 PhD thesis supervised in the last 10 years (2 thesis ongoing) Finally, I hold the position of Dean of the Faculty of Biology of the University of Vigo since September 2011 from december 2019, and vicedean of the Faculty from that date until now.
