Laura Campo-Deaño obtained her PhD in physics in 2008, awarded with distinction by the University of Vigo (Spain). Then, she moved to Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (Belgium) with a postdoctoral fellowship under a contract from an ERC Starting Grant in the Chemical Engineering Department, Soft Matter, Rheology and Technology Laboratory, recognised worldwide as the best research group in the field of experimental rheology where she had the opportunity to reinforce her experience in shear rheology and to acquire knowledge in extensional rheology and electrospinning techniques. In 2011, her dedication to rheological research led to her being awarded an FCT postdoctoral research grant. This grant facilitated her research at CEFT in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Porto. Her work focused on investigating the influence of the non-Newtonian properties of blood on the formation of cerebral aneurysms. Further expanding her international research collaborations, she spent three months at the University of Oxford in the UK's Physical and Theoretical Chemistry Laboratory of the Chemistry Department in 2012. Recognising her outstanding contributions, she secured an Investigator FCT Starting Grant in 2013. In 2016, she became Assistant Professor at the Mechanical Engineering Department of the University of Porto, being promoted to Associate Professor in 2023. She has published over 40 articles in high-impact factor journals with 56 co-authors and an h-index of 17. She has also co-authored more than 80 presentations at national and international conferences. Over the past decade, she has secured funding exceeding 1.25M€ as the principal researcher. This funding has been acquired through competitive public calls and contracts with industry partners, with significant contributions to patents and software developments. She has been an integral member of numerous research teams and has taken on the role of Principal Investigator for 5 research projects. She is supervising 3 PhD students and one postdoctoral researcher. She has participated as an expert evaluator for the Research Executive Agency of the European Union (H2020-MSCA-IF-2014, H2020-MSCAIF- 2015, H2020-MSCA-ITN-2018, H2020-MSCA-IF-2019), "la Caixa" Fellowship Programme, Paris Region FP, Research Foundation-Flanders (FWO) and Czech Science Foundation among others. She has taken on leadership roles in organising international conferences, including the Iberian Meeting on Rheology and the International Flowing Matter Conference series. Beyond academia, she played a pivotal role as a co-founder of the Spin-Off company Rheinforce Lda, showing her entrepreneurial spirit. In recognition of her dedication to the field, she assumed the role of vice president at the Portuguese Society of Rheology (SPR) in 2023. Concurrently, she actively contributes to institutional decision-making as a Mechanical Engineering Department Council member. Laura is dedicated to scientific outreach, advocating for women in science and making science accessible to diverse audiences through talks, publications, and seminars. Her involvement in activities such as "Fluid Mechanics for Youth Scientists" underscores her commitment to inspiring future generations. Throughout her career, she took two significant breaks for maternity leave: May 18, 2014, to October 17, 2014, and August 3, 2018, to January 2, 2019. Additionally, she temporarily paused for a pregnancy risk leave from May 10, 2018, to August 3, 2018.
