Luis Gomes (PhD, 2020) is an Associated Professor at ISEP and a Researcher at GECAD. His current research regards the design, implementation, test, and validation of models and solutions mostly based on of artificial intelligence for different challenging problems in multiple application domains. Luis Gomes is a known international expert in multi-agent systems, namely intelligent agents and cyber-physical agents. He leads a research team working on GECAD’s energy cyber-physical infrastructure, which started in 2018 with 4 research students (1 PhD, 1 MSc, 2 undergraduate). Currently, this team has 8 people (1 doctorate researcher, 1 PhD student, 2 MSc students, 4 undergraduate students). In the last 5 years, this team was responsible for the filling of 2 patents, publication of more than 20 papers, and 3 real and realistic datasets. With part of these data he created and co-organized 2 large impact international competitions, regarding energy forecast, proposed to and supported by the Task Force on Open Data Sets (ODS), the Working Group on Intelligent Data Mining and Analysis, and the Intelligent Systems Subcommittee of IEEE Power and Energy Systems Society. He has a solid and large international network, and his work attracts visitors from different parts of the world for visits and short stays of researchers and stakeholders, and longer stays of students, namely the secondments of 23 Brazilian students over the last 5 years. His research has been developed in the scope of 13 international and 19 national R&D projects, contributing to more than 20 management models and 17 prototypes, many of which are still operating in pilot and demonstrator sites. His experience in R&D projects coordination includes being GECAD Coordinator of 2 European Projects (TIoCPS, F4iTech), GECAD Operational Manager of PRODUTECH DIH, and the respective European Digital Innovation Hub (PRODUTECH EDIH), Operational Coordinator of a Research Line of RETINA, and GECAD Coordinator of Portuguese project NGS-BP20. He was the International Coordinator of WP in the European project TIoCPS. Luis Gomes supervision experience includes 1 PhD, 22 MSc (12 completed), 39 BSc (31 completed) students. He has tutor role in 3 PhD theses and in 2 PostDoc works. He has published more than 140 works, including 44 in peer-reviewed international journals, and 5 book chapters. His first journal publication has 91 citations, according to Google Scholar (GS), and since 2018 he published 81 works (41 journal papers). As of 04/03/2024, he has 1098 citations, h-index of 15, and i10-index of 35 (GS). Luis Gomes has won 3 international and 2 national awards and has 5 mentions in international conferences. He started his research activities in 2009 (before finishing his BSc) and went through various positions as a junior researcher. Before starting his PhD, Luis Gomes had published 1 paper in the international journal of IEEE intelligent systems, 20 international conferences papers, 1 patent regarding multi-agent systems for hardware-in-the-loop simulation and received 2 European and 2 Portuguese awards. Since the beginning of his research, he demonstrates an above-average motivation and dedication to innovative and revolutionary ideas with a multi-disciplinary approach. He has a MSc degree in Computer Engineering (subfield, Decision Support Systems and Artificial Intelligence) from ISEP in 2013, dissertation graded 20/20, a MSc degree in Multimedia (subfield, Education) from the University of Porto in 2020, dissertation graded 18/20, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Electronics Engineering (subfield, Applied Mobile Computing) from ISEP in 2013. He got his PhD in 2020 in Computer Engineering from the University of Salamanca with a classification of 30/30 (Sobresaliente cum laude). From September 2017 has teaching responsibilities in ISEP with highlight on the Engineering of Artificial Intelligence MSc programme.
