PhD in Civil Engineering, Assistant Research Fellow in the Geotechnical group of the Department of Civil Engineering of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto, and integrated member of CONSTRUCT research unit (Institute of R&D in Structures and Construction). Sara Rios (Scopus H-index=16) has been working on ground improvement technologies for different earth structures (including embankments and transport infrastructures) and liquefaction mitigation. To promote circular economy in geotechnical engineering practice the use of industrial by-products (such as rubber, slags, or ashes) is studied towards its use in earth structures with or without alkali activated binders. After studying the geomechanical behaviour of an artificially cemented silty sand in her PhD in 2011, she has concluded a Post-doc [2013-2018] on alkali activated binders. Sara Rios has also participated in several national and European research projects (PTDC/ECM/099475/2008, SIPAV, ECOSOLO, H2020-LIQUEFACT), as well as in industry consultancy services, and she gives lectures in the Civil Engineering Department of FEUP. At present, she is leading 3 R&D projects (GEOLAB-SAFETY; EEAGrants- GEOCLIMAT; FCT-INPROVE). Sara Rios is deeply involved in national and international committees (ISSMGE - TC307, standardization group, Transportation Geotechnics national commissions). At European level, she has been involved in the creation and development of ROSE Commitment (http://www.rosecommitment.eu/) established in the European Innovation Partnership (EIP) on Raw Materials (2014-2020). Sara Rios published 37 papers in national and international peer review journals (12 as first author), 1 book as author, 2 books as editor, 54 communications in national and international congresses and 3 invited lecturers in national and international universities. She is also Associate Editor of Soils and Rocks International Journal (www.soilsandrocks.com) and Journal of Materials in Civil Engineering from ASCE. She has completed the supervision or co-supervision of 19 MSc and 2 PhD students, and she is presently supervising 3 PhD students as the main supervisor. She has also participated in 15 MSc and 6 PhD juries as examiner, she is peer reviewer for more than 20 international and national scientific journals and she has been in the organization committee of 9 conferences and workshops.
