Helmuth Malonek was a professor at the University of Aveiro (UA), from 1992 to 2020, the year in which he retired. He graduated from Yerevan State University (Armenia) in 1974 and received his PhD in Mathematics from the University of Halle (Germany), where he was Associate Professor between 1988 and 1992. In September 1992, he joined the Department of Mathematics (DMat) at UA as a Guest Associate Professor, becoming Full Professor in 1998. Being a member of the CIDMA Research Unit (Center for Research and Development in Mathematics and Applications), until 2020 he was member of two research groups, “Complex and Hypercomplex Analysis” and “History of Mathematics and Mathematics Education”, of which he was the scientific responsible. Helmuth Malonek developed his scientific career, fundamentally, in the area of Clifford Analysis, having been responsible for the creation of this scientific area in Portugal and, in particular, at the UA. At the same time, he contributed to the development of the scientific area of History of Mathematics at UA. After his retirement, he continues to collaborate with the UA in the doctoral program "History of Science and Scientific Education" and remains an integral member of CIDMA, where he continues his research career in both fields of his interest, coordinating still the research group “History of Mathematics and Mathematics Education”. His more than 100 publications include books, book-chapters, articles in international journals and proceedings of conferences. He was advisor and co-advisor of 9 PhD-Theses and 20 MSc-Theses. He participated in several international research projects, among them in the framework of INTAS, bilateral LUSO-German projects, and CONOCyT-Mexico, and was organiser and member of Scientific Committees of several international workshops and conferences in Portugal, Germany, Finland, Spain, Estland, Russia and P. R. China.
