Cláudia Mouro obtained her BsC (score: 14 out of 20; 2011) and MSc (score: 17 out of 20; 2013) degrees in Biotechnology from UBI. During these years, she acquired theoretical and practical skills in essential and emerging areas such as Industrial Biotechnology, Nanobioengineering, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biomaterials, and Microbiology. In addition, her MSc dissertation (2012-2013) entitled "Antimicrobial peptides a new strategy for bioactive functionalization of wool and polyamide" was carried out within the scope of an FCT project in Biotechnology (PTDC/EBB-BIO/113671/ 2009 Skin2Tex), which allowed her to remain at UBI as a volunteer researcher, and integrate a multidisciplinary research group, composed of students from different backgrounds, developing new materials and exploring different functionalization strategies in order to improve a wide range of skills and reinforce her knowledge in the characterization of the physical, chemical, mechanical, and biological properties of the produced materials. Later, Cláudia Mouro was awarded with a PhD fellowship from FCT. Her PhD thesis was focused on the development of wound dressing materials containing medicinal plant extracts from the electrospinning technique, namely by using emulsion electrospinning for fiber production and the deposition of different layers. In February of 2023, she obtained her PhD degree in Advanced Materials and Processing (PhD program AdvaMTech) from UBI, with the highest grade (Passed with Distinction and Praise). Afterward, Cláudia Mouro received two research fellowships within the scope of the UIDB/00195/2020- Strategic project of the FibEnTech research unit, focused on developing sustainable bio-based materials with new functionalities and improved performance. Currently, she is working as a post-doctoral fellow at the Aeronautics and Astronautics Research Center (AEROG) as a part of the (LA/P/0079/2020) project of the Associated Laboratory for Energy, Transport and Aeronautics (LAETA) research unit, developing and characterizing advanced materials with distinctive properties. So far, her research work has contributed to the publication of 1 book chapter and 24 peer-reviewed papers with scientific novelty (as first and part of the team), in collaboration with both national and international researchers. Cláudia Mouro is also author/co-author of 9 oral and 5 poster communications. Moreover, she was the main examiner of 1 MSc dissertation and examiner for 5 BSc projects. She co-supervised 2 undergraduate students and 4 MSc students, and currently, she is co-supervising 1 MSc and 1 PhD student. Cláudia Mouro lectured theoretical and practical classes for the BsC degree at UBI on the subjects of Industrial Biotechnology and has supported practical classes on several subjects. She is a guest editor for a special issue of Gels (MDPI) on Advanced Gel-Based Materials and Coatings with Enhanced Bioactivity and a reviewer for journals like Fermentation (MDPI), Pharmaceutics (MDPI), and Gels (MDPI). Her scientific interests include the biotechnology applied to materials, the bioactive functionalization of materials, and the production and characterization of different advanced materials. Currently, Cláudia Mouro works in the development of bio-based and waste-based materials with new functionalities for application in fields such as textiles, paper and packaging, medicine, automotive, aerospace, and others.
