Maria Fernanda Sánchez Goñi graduate in Biological Sciences at University of Navarra (Pamplona, Spain) in 1982 and completed a Master in Quaternary Geology, Museum Nationale d¿Histoire Naturelle (MNHN), Paris (1986) and a PhD in Quaternary Geology at MNHN, Paris, France) (1991). She awarded a post-doctoral fellowship at the Department of Plant Sciences of the University of Cambridge. In 2005 she completed her ¿HDR- Habilitation à diriger des recherches¿ at University Bordeaux 1 (Talence, France). She is currently Professor «Classe Exceptionnelle» 1er échelon at EPHE, PSL University, as well as director of the CNRS Paleoclimate group at the UMR 5805 EPOC (University of Bordeaux). MF Sánchez Goñi has 3 awards: a) ¿Prime d¿Encadrement Doctoral et Recherche¿ (2014 - 22 PEDR); b) ¿Prime d¿Excellence Scientifique¿ (2010 ¿ 14 PES); c) ¿Prime Encadrement Doctoral et Recherche¿ (2006 ¿ 10 PEDR). MF supervised: 19 Postdocs, 6 PhD and 18 Master Students at EPOC (UBx-CNRS-EPHE). She contributed to the early careers of excellent researchers: awards given to PhD students (3 PhD Awards from ¿Association des Palynologues de Langue Française¿; 1 student poster award, 1 student oral communication, 1 student L¿Oréal Medals of Honor, Young Woman Scientists, Portugal). She coordinated 3 projects (PHC Star France-Corée, INQUA and INSU-CNRS), lead tasks of 3 projects (2 ANR ¿ French Agency, 1 ERC Advanced) in the last 10 years. She published 106 articles in peer-reviewed journals, 5 articles in other scientific journals, 1 monograph, 15 chapters in edited monographs. She has h-index of 44 and 6765 citations in scopus. MF participated in more than 150 presentations (oral and posters) to international (ICP, AGU, EGU, INQUA, IPC, Goldsmith¿) and national congress, symposia and workshops, with 32 as invited/solicited speaker. She organized 19 international and national congress/workshops and has lead, co-lead and participated in several research expeditions. Her field of expertise is the analysis of pollen and microcharcoal particles preserved in marine sedimentary sequences. This analysis allows the establishment of a direct correlation, without any chronological ambiguity, between vegetation, fire regime, terrestrial climate, ocean conditions and ice dynamics. This approach is crucial to identify potential leads and lags between the different Earth¿s reservoirs and the mechanisms involved in the orbital and millennial-scale climate variability.
