Sylvie Ribeiro graduated in Biological Engineering with a master in Food and Chemical Technology in 2011 from the University of Minho, Portugal. The master thesis was developed in the Institut National des Sciences Appliquées (INSA) in Toulouse, France. From 2013 to 2015, she integrated a new challenging business path within the project called NanoPAINT - design your technology, with the objective to investigate/produce circuits and flexible sensors through novel polymer-based electroactive inks being responsible for the biocompatibility and cytotoxicity tests as also all biomedical applications of these inks. A Spin-off company, Nanopaint was founded in 2016. Her multidisciplinary formation allowed her to be involved in several works beginning her scientific career in tissue engineering in 2013. In 2020, she concluded your PhD in Materials Engineering at the Physics and Biology Center of the School of Sciences of the University of Minho. During this time, she performed internships at the Instituto Superior Técnico (Lisboa, Portugal), Centro de Biomateriales e Ingeniería Tisular of the Universitat Politècnica de Valência (Spain) and at the ARC Centre of Excellence for Electromaterials Science (Wollongong, Australia). She has expertise in the areas of materials processing and characterization of smart and multifunctional materials and their application in tissue engineering. In this specific area, significant achievements are related to cell culture, cell-biomaterial interactions and in the development and application of bioreactors for muscle tissue engineering. She has 42 ISI papers (12 as first author and 4 as submitting author, h-index of 20) and 3 book chapters also as first author yielding more than 1200 citations.
