Ana Margarida Pinto da Fonseca, completed her Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Landscape Management in December of 2016 at University of Évora, received her Master Degree in Human Ecology in December of 2003 in the same University. She published a book about Montado history, participated in a book chapter with the same theme, and has several scientific papers on emergy evaluation of food production and Montado system, one on food used in the past in periods of famine, and two scientific papers related to food systems in Portugal. She was part of the founding group of the Iberian Acorn Brotherhood and has been involved in organizing the Iberian Acorn Conferences since their beginning, particularly the 2nd Conference held at the University of Évora in 2018. She is currently President of the board of the same Confraternity. She regularly publishes works on the use of this product in the past and today. As a result of regular invitations from various lecturers at the University of Évora, she has taught several classes in undergraduate, master's and doctoral courses in the areas of the Montado, the history of the Montado, the emergy evaluation and utilization of acorns in the human diet and traditional practices associated with food. She has also been a member of the external advisory board of several international projects. With CIMAC - Intermunicipal Community of Alentejo Region she help to organized the SoEClose project - The social economy as a driver of short supply chains, together with the Diputación de Almeria (Andalusia, Spain) La Drôme Department (Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France) and a cross-cutting partner, REVES- European Network of Cities and Regions for Social Economy, acting as a consultant of the University of Évora. Participated, from the very beginning, in the construction of the Food Strategy for the Municipality of Montemor-o-Novo - SMEA, having taken part in issue 1 of its magazine with two articles on local products. As Principal Investigator, she has managed and participated in various research projects (H2020, PRIMA, OG) in an agro-ecological enterprise with international projection - Montado do Freixo do Meio, which is currently a Private Protected Area. These research activities are related mainly with the improvement of acorn value chain, and the introduction, in Montado, of cultures adapted to climate change. She has participated in various activities and publications of ARC2020 - Agricultural and Rural Convention - Agricultural and rural actors working together for good food, good farming and better rural policies in the EU. Organising regular activities and visits at the Terras Sem Sombra Festival, about the Montado, the use of acorns and the foods used in the past. Organization of "Veredas - Itinerâncias na Paisagem" sessions, on traditional agricultural practices, at Paço dos Henriques, focusing on the themes of Transhumance, Chocalhos and O Rafeiro do Alentejo, in the Winter sessions, and on Romaria a Cavalo, Portuguese Autochthonous Breeds and Natural Pastures in the spring session dedicated to Livestock. Promotion of the signing, on 28 November 2018, of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Municipality of Viana do Alentejo and the University of Évora with the aim of creating mechanisms to enable the implementation of joint projects related to the Montado's silvo-pastoral system and funded by national or international bodies. She works in the area of Agrarian Sciences and Natural Sciences with emphasis on Montado, its management and history, food consumed in the past, ethnobiology and retro-innovation.
