Telmo G. Santos holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering (2009). Currently, he is a Full Professor and the head of the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering (DEMI), NOVA School of Science and Technology of NOVA University of Lisbon (NOVA FCT), and a researcher at UNIDEMI. He is the coordinator of the Ph.D. program in Mechanical Engineering and the head of the group of Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) and Advanced Manufacturing at DEMI. He is the author of about 120 scientific publications, with expertise in: 1) Advanced Manufacturing, including Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM), Friction Stir Welding and Processing (FSW/P), Hybrid Processes. The focus is on developing new manufacturing process variants, customized equipment, and process monitoring and instrumentation. 2) Non-Destructive Testing (NDT), encompassing electromagnetic methods (e.g., eddy currents), as well as thermography, air-coupled ultrasound, terahertz, and bio-inspired NDT using bacterial cells. The focus is on developing innovative NDT variants, probes, and customization for specific industrial needs.
