Margarida Basaloco Fonseca has completed the Biology Degree in 2017 by Faculdade de Ciências, University of Lisbon. During this time explored several scientific areas amongst them: Microbiology, Molecular Biology and Biochemistry. Presented her master's thesis in 2022 in the scope of the Master in Biotechnology for Sustainability lectured by Universidade Nova de Lisboa Instituto de Tecnologia Química e Biológica António Xavier in a partnership with InnovPlantProtect. Her master thesis focused on the identification and characterization of a bacterial biological control agent against Fire Blight. This study culminated into an International Patent Application. On the present day, Margarida is a contracted Researcher in InnovPlantProtect, having expertise in Microbiology and Molecular Biology focused on the system of plant-pathogen interactions. She also submitted a second provisional patent application for a bacterial biostimulant in horticultural crops. She had been also part of BCV lab at ITQB-NOVA, in which integrated 2 projects: "Suscetibilidade ao Oídio na Videira: relação fenótipo-genótipo no germoplasma português” and “Programa de Conservação e Melhoramento Genético Vegetal de Oliveira” as a research fellow. Margarida has also good communication skills, being able of communicating in 3 languages: Portuguese, English and Spanish. She participated in an ERASMUS+ program in which did an internship in CEBAS-CSIC, Múrcia, Spain, and explored molecular techniques for virus detection. Margarida has organized several events as well as participated actively in the scientific community. Has been a co-author in 1 article in an indexed scientific journal, 3 conference posters and 3 conference abstracts, having collaborating with a wide range of expert researchers. Due to her scientific journey she can be extremely adaptable, work independently or in teams and has scientific thinking and observation skills.
