Adrian Fernandez Lodeiro (AFL) holds a degree in Chemistry from the University of Santiago de Compostela (Spain) (2006-2013). During this period, the applicant did an Erasmus year at the NOVA University of Lisbon (Portugal) (2011-2012). He was directed towards a research career by several of his professors, finding an affinity with inorganic chemistry. AFL did his final bachelor thesis under the supervision of Professor Rufina Bastida on the synthesis of polyamines and their subsequent functionalisation in nanomaterials for inorganic mercury sensors. During the Erasmus year at the NOVA University of Lisbon (Portugal), he carried out a toxicology project under the supervision of Professor Mario Diniz. From 2014-2019 the applicant completed his PhD degree in Sustainable Chemistry (PhD joint program between NOVA University of Lisbon, University of Porto and University of Aveiro) at the NOVA University of Lisbon (Portugal) under the direction of Prof. Jose Luis Capelo. AFL stayed at the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona (UAB, Spain), under the supervision of his PhD co-direction Prof. Julia Lorenzo, to apply nanomaterials to in vitro human cells. During the first years of his thesis, he continued to develop the area of chemical sensors through the synthesis and photophysical studies of various compounds in collaboration with universities in Spain and Portugal. At the same time, AFL continues to work in the research line of nanomaterials, the main topic of his doctoral thesis, expanding applications from sensors (with gold and silver nanoparticles) to antibacterial (gold and silver nanoparticles) or catalysis (platinum nanoparticles), with remarkable results in all of them. Since then, AFL has been a Post-doctoral Researcher with multidisciplinary activities under the Proteomass Scientific Society first (2020-2021) and the NOVA University of Lisbon later (2021-2022), providing him with an excellent interdisciplinary background with good scientific records, as well as improving his expertise in project management, independent thinking, and leadership skills. AFL is the author and co-author of 23 articles in international peer-review journals, 3 of them being highlighted as front covers, with an h-index of 10 with over 295 citations. AFL has presented his work in 18 national or international conferences, with two oral communications and 25 poster presentations. Result of this work, AFL won 3 different conference prizes. AFL has been a special issue editor in 2 different journals and a scientific committee member in 6 international conferences. AFL has been part of the team of two competitive nanomaterials-based projects since 2021 for a total of 283.000€, one of them as the Principal Investigator, and a team member of 4 projects from the Proteomass Scientific Society for a total of ca. 300.000€. Parallel,AFL has been part of the organising committee in more than 35 international conferences and one national conference located in Caparica, Portugal, with different roles in the organisation.
