Alex Ferreira Magalhães

Alex Ferreira Magalhães is having a current Post-doctorate at the Center for Social Studies, associated to University of Coimbra. Area of Urban Studies with emphasis in Interdisciplinary Social Sciences. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Law (Faculty of Law, 1990), Specialization in Urban Sociology (Institute of Philosophy and Human Sciences, 1995) and Master in Law of the City (Law School, 1999), all by the State University of Rio de Janeiro, as well as a PhD in Urban and Regional Planning from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (Institute for Research and Urban and Regional Planning / IPPUR, 2010). He has experience in the areas of Law (emphasis in Urban Law and Civil Law), Urban Planning (emphasis on Master Plans, urban policy instruments, and Land Settlement), Social Sciences (emphasis on Urban Sociology) and Research Methodology. He is Associate Professor I at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), in IPPUR, ministering in the following disciplines: Urban Law, Environmental Law and Urban Planning Theory and Instruments, in the undergraduate course in Public Management; Urban Planning, Master Plans, and Precarious Settlements in Postgraduate courses (Specialization, Master's and Doctorate) in Urban and Regional Planning. He coordinates research and extension projects, directs several academic works (from undergraduate to postdoctoral) and has numerous publications related to the disciplines mentioned above. He coordinated the Specialization course (Post-Graduation Latu Sensu) in Politics and Urban Planning of IPPUR / UFRJ between 2014 and 2017. He was a member of the National Board of the Brazilian Institute of Urban Law (IBDU) in the period 2014-2017. He has been a member of the International Research Group on Law and Urban Space (IRGLUS) since 2014. He is a member of the CLACSO (Latin American Council of Social Sciences) Working Group on 'Urban Inequalities' since 2015. Since 2016 he has been a FAPERJ Researcher - Scientist of Our State. Founder and General Director of the Laboratory of Studies of Transformations of Brazilian Urban Law (LEDUB). In the period from 2015 to 2016, he was in charge of the General Coordination of the Second National Seminar on Slum Urbanization (II URBFAVELAS), held in Rio de Janeiro in November 2016. In its Science Vitae curriculum the most frequent terms in the contextualization of scientific, technological and artistic-cultural production are: "Slums upgrading programs"; "Portuguese Language Countries"; "secure land tenure"; "right to housing"; and “human settlements”.
