Robby Stoks graduated in Biology from the University of Antwerp in 1995 where he completed a PhD in Biology in 1999. His PhD focused on sexual and natural selection in damselflies. After his PhD he was postdoctoral fellow in Dartmouth College (USA) in the group of Mark McPeek. After two terms of postdoctoral fellow of the Fund for Scientific Research Flanders, he became assistant professor at the University of Leuven in 2006 where he currently is Full professor in Ecology and Evolution. He has a leading role in the Department of Biology as head of the Division ‘Ecology, Evolution and Conservation Biology’, and in the Biology bachelor and master programs as program director. He is member of the European Research Council (ERC) ‘Starting grant’ panel LS8 ‘Evolutionary, Population and Environmental Biology’ (from 2019). He heads the research group ‘Evolutionary stress ecology and ecotoxicology’. His research is situated at the interplay between ecology and evolution, and focuses on how freshwater invertebrates adapt to natural and anthropogenic stressors with recent emphasis on global warming and pollution. Special attention goes to an integrated and mechanistic understanding of responses to single and combined stressors going from the subcellular level up to the level of population and community dynamics. Robby Stoks coordinated several research projects of the Fund for Scientific Research Flanders and is involved as co-PI in several research projects at the KU Leuven. He was member of the Editorial board of several scientific journals (including Ecological Entomology and Journal of Evolutionary Biology), and currently (since 2014) is Associate Editor of the Proceedings of the Royal Society B - Biological Sciences. His publication record contains 8 book chapters and >250 articles in international peer-reviewed journals, including general top journals [Annual Review of Entomology, Nature] and top journals in the fields of ecology and evolution [Ecology (11x), Ecology Letters (6x), Ecological Monographs (2x), Evolution (7x), Evolutionary Applications (11x), Functional Ecology (10), Global Change Biology (8x), Journal of Animal Ecology (9x), and Proceedings of the Royal Society B (4x)] and in the field of ecotoxicology [Chemosphere (2x), Environmental Science & Technology (5x), Environmental Pollution (9x), and Science of the Total Environment (7x)]. His h-index is 45, with 3 highly cited papers, and >7000 citations (based on Web of Science). For a full list of publications see http://lirias.kuleuven.be/cv?Username=U0034380. He has been the (co-)promoter of 15 completed PhDs at KU Leuven, and the co-promoter of 10 completed PhDs at other Belgian universities. He guided 6 postdocs (5 now hold permanent research positions). His current research team consists of 1 technician, 3 postdocs and 6 PhD students; he is co-promoter of 2 other PhD students.
