Cláudia Martins concluded her PhD in Biomedical Sciences from University of Porto (Portugal) in 2023, under a partnership
with the University of Nottingham (UK) and University of Louvain (Belgium), and is currently a Junior Postdoctoral Researcher
at Institute for Research and Innovation in Health (i3S, Portugal). She was recently granted a highly competitive 6-year Postdoctoral
Contract from FCT-Individual Call to Scientific Employment Stimulus (2024). In recent years, Cláudia Martins has taken on
the role of visiting researcher at various academia (ETH Zurich (Switzerland), Queen's University Belfast (UK), University
of Nottingham (UK), University of Louvain (Belgium)) and industrial (MyBiotech GmbH (Germany)) institutions. Some of her current
areas of interest include biomaterials, targeted cancer nanomedicine, brain drug delivery and tissue engineering. Cláudia
Martins has developed an extensive work in these areas since 2015, which resulted in a Marie Sklodowska-Curie Fellowship,
PI funding of over 500K€ (participation in 19 R&D projects funded by, e.g., FCT, EU, UK EPSRC), and support from renowned
programs like EMBO. She has so far published 28 articles in international peer reviewed journals (8 as first-author, 2 as
last-author, 18 as co-author; >1138 citations, h-index 15, Scopus) and 5 book chapters (3 as first-author, 1 as last-author,
1 as co-author), authored >50 communications in international conferences (including 3 invited talks), and was awarded 31
distinctions. Examples of distinctions include the prestigious Early Career Investigator Award from the Nano2Clinic COST Action
(2019), Galenus Foundation Technology Prize (2023, never awarded to a Portuguese researcher before), and the Julia Polak European
Doctorate Award (2025). She has participated in several teaching activities (University of Porto/University of Lisbon, Portugal),
and is referee for international funding agencies (Switzerland, Poland, Israel, European Commission) and top-ranked scientific
journals (e.g., Acta Biomaterialia, Advanced Science, Journal of Controlled Release). She was nominated Young Associate Editor
of Drug Delivery and Translational Research in 2024. Demonstrating her team management capabilities, Cláudia Martins has acted
as the main supervisor in the supervision of 5 students, has participated in 9 student mentorings, and has served on the scientific/organizing
committee of 13 scientific events (main organizer of the 12th Galenus International Workshop, keynote: Dr. Robert Langer,
MIT). The scientific journey of Cláudia Martins has involved her participation in various societies (e.g., Controlled Release
Society (CRS), American Association for Cancer Research (AACR), European Association for Cancer Research (EACR)), and transition
to executive roles in technical committees (elected Chair of the CRS Young Scientist Committee in 2023). She inherently possesses
a strong passion for science outreach, which led her to the co-coordination of Pint of Science Portugal.
