Lianshe Fu received his Ph.D. in lanthanide (Ln) based organic-inorganic hybrids (OIHs) at Changchun Institute of Applied Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences (1999). After that, he worked as a post-doctor at Université Clermont Auvergne (France) and as an associate researcher in City University of Hong Kong to study Ln based luminescent nanomaterials. After being awarded a Post-doc grant (FCT, 2002), he came to UA to continue his research career. From then Phantom-G has been founded and integrated with independent yet collaborative researchers from chemistry, physics and IT for material preparation, device fabrication and performance characterization. He is responsible for the material synthesis, which is the fundamental work and plays an indispensable role in the group research. To start the work, he installed all the experimental setups for vacuum system and hydrothermal synthesis, which provides essential conditions for him to design and synthesize luminescent OIHs used in Phantom-G. To further pursue his career in material design, synthesis, characterization and device fabrication, he was succeeded in Ciência 2007 (FCT) and followed in Investigador FCT (2013). Now as a full-time researcher, he is working in Phantom-G on the synthesis, structural characterizations of sustainable CDs and their applications in WLEDs, LSCs and sensing devices. Over more than 20 years, he gathered broad expertise in synthesis of OIHs for optoelectronic applications using various strategies spanning from soft-chemistry methods, hydrothermal synthesis to nanoparticle preparation. In addition, the training course on Gaussian (Ulm, Germany) gave him more ability on computational chemistry. His remarkable achievements can be highlighted as follows: i) Synthesis of various sustainable luminescent materials and fabrication of WLEDs and LSCs devices, which have potential applications in lighting, energy saving, temperature sensing and medical field. The work regarding remote medical care "Smart Optical Sensors for Internet of Things" won IEEE Access best video prize (2022). ii) As (corresponding) author/co-author, during the last 5 years, he published more than 70 SCI papers. Now he has totally published more than 220 SCI papers in prestigious journals, 10 oral presentations, more than 30 poster and 20 conference abstract and 10 conference papers. The total number of citations is more than 6800 and an h-index of 44. iii) Currently, he is the main participants in projects Integrated photonic neural probes (2022.15735.CMU) to prepare hydrogel fibers from alginate by 3D printing, LogicALL (PTDC/CTM-CTM/0340/2021) to prepare nanoparticles and project (UIDP/50011/2020) to synthesis of luminescent CDs for WLEDs and LSCs. Previously, as PI, he coordinated FCT project: Preparation and photoluminescence features of white-emitting single-phased phosphors for light-emitting diodes (PTDC/CTM/108975/2008) and two projects in China. He also participated in many projects involved LSCs, WLEDs and waveguide in UA. iv) Presently, he is responsible and supervising the students for the synthesis of luminescent materials for Phantom-G. As co-supervisor, he supervised Ph.D. students on Ln OIHs for solid-state lighting. He also successfully supervised four post-doctoral fellows (FCT scholarships). Two consecutive years (2023 and 2024), he gave teaching to students at Harbin Institute of Technology. Before as a teacher in China, he also lectured Chemistry Experiments course, and as co-supervisor, supervised three Ph.D. students. v) He established a wide national (UTAD, UM and UBI) and international (Brazil, Spain and Canada) collaborations, which is reflected in his many publications with international authors. vi) He has maintained active scientific editorial duties, being a regular reviewer for more than 20 international journals. As Guest Editor, he organized 6 Special Issues in MDPI Journals: Polymers, Molecules, Sensors and Chemosensors.
