Catarina Amorim (CA) holds a B.Sc. in Biochemistry (2005) and a Ph.D. in Biotechnology with a specialization in Environmental Science and Engineering (2013). Following her Ph.D., she was awarded a postdoctoral fellowship by FCT to conduct research at CESAM, University of Aveiro (2014-2018). In 2018, she transitioned to a Junior Researcher position at UCP-CBQF, joining the Environmental and Resources thematic line. CLAmorim research interests include: (i) the application of the granular sludge technology based on microalgae and/or bacteria for wastewater treatment; (ii) bioaugmentation processes; (iii) adsorption-based processes; (iv) microbiome functional dynamics. She has 37 papers in peer reviewed scientific journals, 2 book chapters and 1 paper in a technical-scientific national journal. Her work led to >65 communications in scientific international and national conferences. She has also been invited to act as keynote speaker and invited speaker in conferences, seminars and workshops. Currently she is a member of the editorial board of the international journals Frontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology, PlosOne and Polymers. She participates(ed) in national and international projects as PI (GReAT - PTDC/BTA-BTA/29970/2017) or team member (AGeNT - PTDC/BTA-BTA/31264/2017; Beer2BioPol - PTDC/BTA-BTA/31746/2017; AquaVal - WaterJPI/0003/2016; MobFood - POCI-01-0247-FEDER-024524/SI-47-2016-10; MULTIBIOREFINERY-POCI-01-0145-FEDER-016403), devoted to the treatment and valorization of industrial wastewater streams and developed in collaboration with industrial partners. Recently, she was awarded with 2 Proof of Concept Grants, for exploring the commercial potential of research ideas in the wastewater field. She is also member of 2 COST Actions: CA20127 - WIRE and CA20133 - FULLRECO4US. Additionally, she has participated in various evaluation processes as an expert reviewer for funding applications in national and international evaluation panel committees, including for the Czech Science Foundation, the Agencia Nacional de Investigación y Desarrollo in Chile, and for the National Science Center in Poland, as well as for FCT in Portugal. Over the last years, CLAmorim has been involved in students’ supervision, acting as supervisor or and co-supervisor of Master (2) and PhD (4) thesis. She has also been involved in the mentoring of students from different levels, including MSc and PhD ERASMUS research trainings and research grants. She has also been dedicated to teaching at undergraduate and post-graduate levels, teaching 3 units at UCP. Additionally, CLAmorim is/was member of the scientific committee of several international conferences. She has also been involved in the organization of scientific seminars and workshops and in the dynamization of several outreaching activities for the wider public.
