Janaína Morone Bavini has a Master degree in Biology and Water Quality Management, by the Faculty of Sciences University of Porto, in 2018. During the studies conducting to her Masters degree, she gained experience in cultivation and harvesting of microalgae and cyanobacteria as well as culture collection maintenance and organization. Furthermore, she has experience in the preparation of organic extracts through the dry biomass and also their fractionation. She has acquired knowledge in the determination of pigments by chromatographic techniques, namely VLC, HPLC-PDA and LC-MS, and in enzymatic and antioxidant assays, using spectrophotometric techniques. Considering cell-based assays, she has gained autonomy in working with different cell lines, namely keratonocytes, fibroblasts and endothelial cells, using different cytotoxicity assays in exploring the viability of extracts. During her scientific path, she has published 3 papers, being one of them to specialized peer-reviewed journal of Quartile 1; made 3 orals communications, being one of them in a scientific meeting and the other as a speaker in a project (European Commission); and has one chapter book published regarding cyanobacteria in cosmetics. Her last job was as a research technician on an international project. Her research interests are undoubtedly on natural compounds with cosmetics and cosmeceuticals potential, derived from cyanobacteria, and oriented to the areas of photoprotection, antioxidants, anti-inflammatory and cellular regeneration of human skin. Her goal, as a PhD student, is to work with biotechnology in the line of the future incorporation of cyanobacteria promising extracts in a pharmaceutical formulation directed to skin care.
