Inna Uliyakina de Oliveira Lobo is a postdoctoral research scientist with PhD in Biochemistry/Molecular Genetics and vast experience in cellular and molecular biology, microscopy and mammalian cell culture techniques applied to study intracellular trafficking, extracellular vesicles, cell signalling and protein expression, function and interactions, with communication, managerial and leadership skills. Currently, Inna is working on “Metabolic Odyssey in Staphylococcus aureus” project at ITQB, Universidade Nova de Lisboa and Biosystems and Integrative Sciences Institute (BioISI), Universidade de Lisboa, Portugal. Lately, Inna has been exploring the impact of pathogenic bacteria Staphylococcus aureus on human Cystic Fibrosis epithelial cell inflammation, differentiation and repair, an exploratory project funded by BioISI. Previously Inna worked at the Department of Physiology, Anatomy and Genetics at the University of Oxford where developed a novel therapeutic strategy utilizing extracellular vesicles as a carrier to deliver NPC1 protein to lysosomal-storage diseased cells and animals leading to normalization of cholesterol transport and glycosphingolipids levels. This project is currently continued by a world-leading extracellular vesicle therapy company Evox Therapeutics Ltd that will proceed with clinical trials. In 2015 Inna has completed her PhD in “Analysis of CFTR Mutants in Epithelial Cells/Tissues and Testing of CFTR-Repairing Therapies” (supervisor Prof. Dr. Margarida D Amaral) at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisboa, Portugal. Her PhD work involved functional characterization of CF modifier genes identified by GWAS using high-throughput siRNA microscopy screens (studies performed at the Advanced Light Microscopy Facility, EMBL, Heidelberg, Germany); functional analysis of the CFTR mutants in epithelial cells from CF patients and assessment of novel therapeutic strategies. During her career Inna has elaborated, coordinated and performed several national and international research projects both within academia and with pharmaceutical companies. Participated in several international conferences and was awarded with fellowships and prizes. Inna has also supervised graduate/master/PhD students and was a laboratory instructor and lecturer on several workshops. Additionally, Inna has graduated with Honors at Master of Business Administration from Quantic School of Business and Technology in 2019. Knowledge fields: Extracellular Vesicles; Lysosomal Storage Disorders; Rare Diseases; Cystic Fibrosis; Genetic Disorders; Novel Therapeutic Strategies.
