Ângelo Ferreira Chora (AFC) has a BSc in Microbiology and Genetics and a PhD. in Biomedical Sciences, both granted by Lisbon University. He has developed his research in both national and international host institutions. Of notice, he had a two-year training period in Harvard Medical School, Boston, USA, after which he initiated his graduate studies in the Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência, Oeiras. After completion, AFC moved to Instituto de Medicina Molecular João Lobo Antunes, Lisbon, where he concluded in 2013 a successful post-doctoral period. In 2014, AFC integrated the Biology and Physiology of Malaria Unit led by Maria M. Mota. There, he developed his own lines of research, bringing an original perspective to the field of Host-Plasmodium interactions. AFC has a relevant record of original publications, with several high-impact articles and book chapters (3599 citations and h-index of 17; Google Scholar, August 2024). He has secured funding from competitive sources and demonstrated his ability to translate financial support into impactful research outputs. Recently, AFC was awarded a Principal Investigator contract in the sixth edition of the Individual Call to Scientific Employment Stimulus (CEEC), a testament to his expertise and contributions. Overall, the discoveries encapsulated in his research significantly advance the comprehension of disease tolerance mechanisms with a particular focus on malaria, and provide crucial insights into potential therapeutic approaches and the formulation of strategies to combat infectious diseases.
