I graduated with a Bachelor of medicine and Bachelor of surgery degree in 1999 from Makerere University, a Master of Medicine in Internal Medicine from Makerere University in 2009 and a PhD from the University of Edinburgh in 2016. I I have much experience in training and research. Research and publications My area of interest is Palliative medicine and I am actively involved in research in this area . I am was appointed an invited assistant investigator in the University of Coimbra in Portugal in 2022. I am also involved in collaborative research with the University of Coimbra, the University of Sheffield and Leeds. I have 31 publications in peer reviewed journals and 3 published book chapters. I have peer reviewed 6 manuscripts for 6 different journals. Teaching and training: I have 15 years of experience in training of both undergraduate and post graduate students in Internal Medicine. I have been working closely with the Department of Medicine Makerere University since 2008 initially supported by the University College London for 2 years to start up academic palliative medicine. In 2013, I was appointed an honorary senior lecturer in the same department for 2 years and in 2018 a part time lecturer for 1 year and in 2014 a lecturer in the Department of Medicine Makerere University, Kampala Uganda . Teaching has been a significant part of the work I have been doing for the last 14 years and I have been involved in teaching and training in the following ways: a) Teaching and facilitating didactic sessions for both undergraduate and postgraduate students b) I have been course co-coordinator for 3 courses in the Department of Medicine Makerere University including two post graduate courses and one undergraduate course c) I was involved in the revision of the curriculum of the Integrated Medicine course for third year postgraduate students and the Critical Care and Palliative care course for first year postgraduate students in the Department of Medicine Makerere University. d) I am involved in examining both undergraduate and postgraduate students in the same department and this includes setting examinations and conducting clinical examinations. Student Supervision and mentorship I have supervised 5 Masters of internal medicine students’ dissertations from Makerere College of Health sciences and all these dissertations have been successfully defended. I am also supervised 2 students’ dissertations doing the Master of Science in Palliative care at Hospice Africa Uganda, a degree affiliated to Makerere University. Examination of dissertations I have been the internal examiner of four dissertations for Master of Medicine in Internal Medicine, Makerere College of health Sciences and an external examiner for one Masters of Philosophy Palliative care dissertation from the University of Cape Town South Africa. Other academic responsibilities I am a member of the Uganda Cancer Institute ethics and research committee and the Hospice Africa Uganda ethics and research committee. I have participated in organising three conferences.
