Ana Maria Reis d Azevedo Breda holds a Ph D. in Pure Mathematics in the specialization of geometry and topology by the University of Southampton, U. She is an associated professor with habilitation at the University of Aveiro, Portugal, member of the Center for Research and Development in Mathematics and Applications CIDMA, member of the ICMI .PT and coordinator of the multidisciplinary thematic strand GEOMETRIX. During is academic career she has been a visiting professor at several universities in Brazil, United States of America and Canada and has participated, as team member or principal investigator) in research projects in mathematics financed by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) and Gulbenkian Foundation. She was President of the Portuguese Mathematical Society (SPM) at a regional level and Vice-President at a national level; Director of the Mathematics Department of the University of Aveiro, Coordinator of the Scientific Committee of the referred Department, Coordinator of the research group Algebra and Geometry of the Center for Research & Development in Mathematics and Applications (CIDMA) and member of the team that developed the National Mathematics Curriculum for Basic Education. Since 2000, she is the coordinator of the Thematic Line Geometrix, winner of the prize Scientific and Technological Innovation Jaime Filipe. Geometrix is an interdisciplinary research line bringing together, among others, mathematicians, computer scientists, educators and graphic designers, with the purpose of developing formal and non-formal learning environments, covering research topics in the areas of Mathematics, Technology and Mathematical Education. Geometrix also encompasses extension activities relating mathematics / culture / community / university in partnership with national and international institutions and companies. Has several publications and (invited) communications (at national and international level). She organized several international conferences and was president and member of the scientific committee of several national and international events. Responsible for different curricular modules of engineering, science and future teachers of Mathematics has published, within this context, several textbooks. With extensive experience in the supervision of master and Ph.D thesis, she has supervised, theses that for their scientific value were worthy prizewinners.
