Carlos Jorge Caetano Corela

Carlos Jorge Caetano Corela is currently a Researcher Engineer at Instituto Dom Luiz-Faculty of Science of the Lisbon University. He graduated in Geophysics (1996), earned a master’s degree in Electronics Engineering (2001) and holds a PhD in Geophysics (2014), all at Lisbon University. He is a member of the Research Group 3 (Solid Earth Dynamics, Hazards and Resources) of the Instituto Dom Luiz (IDL). His research interests cover different topics like seismology, ambient seismic noise tomography, sensors and dataloggers and all related subjects, regarding ocean bottom seismometers (OBS), like marine mammal’s echoes and submarine cables. Since 2000, he is the coordinator of the unique pool of OBS in Portugal and performed more than 20 oceanographic campaigns, in several parts of the globe. From 2004, started to design, develop, and build new OBSs prototypes at the Seismology Laboratory of Instituto Dom Luiz. Currently, he is now building and testing the fourth generation of this kind of instruments. Participates actively in various research FCT and European projects, and actually acting as Principal Investigator of the FCT project DUNE (PTDC/EAM-OCE/28389/2017). Since 2000, he also is coordinating the permanent seismic station network LX at the Instituto Dom Luiz, with open access on the IRIS-DMC and ORFEUS data center. He supervises the mobile pool of seismic land stations for temporary deployments which has been used in Portugal mainland and Islands within national and some foreign projects, the last ones with IFREMER.
