Renata Matos graduated in Chemistry, in 2017, at Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto (FCUP), with a final grade of 16/20. In 2019, she received her master's degree in Chemistry from the same institution, obtaining a grade of 17/20. She is currently a PhD student in Sustainable Chemistry, working on the development of biochar-based catalysts for oxygen and carbon dioxide electroreduction (ORR and CO2RR, respectively). Her master's dissertation, entitled "Development of graphene nanocomposites for degradation reactions of organic pollutants by photo/electro-Fenton processes", was focused on the preparation and characterization of nanomaterials and their application into catalytic degradation; the prepared materials were also evaluated as catalysts for ORR. During 2016-2018, she participated in three extracurricular internships at LAQV/REQUIMTE. In 2020, she worked at LAQV/REQUIMTE as researcher, developing functional textiles for electromagnetic radiation shielding. Her research interests have been focused on the chemistry of materials, including carbon nanomaterials, metal oxides and functionalization of (nano)materials, and catalytic degradation. Lately, her interest is mainly focused on biochar-based materials for electrocatalysis. She collaborated on two research projects, namely FOTOCATGRAF (ref. UTAP-ICDT/CTMNAN/0025/2014) and REWATER (ref. WaterJPI/0007/2016), and participated on three research projects: RFPROTEX (ref. POCI-01-0247-FEDER-039833), PhotoBioTrans (ref. EXPL/CTM-CTM/0790/2021) and Shell4BioA (EXPL/BII-BIO/0436/2021). During her academic career, she published 9 papers in international peer-reviewed journals and 1 book chapter, organized two scientific dissemination events and participated in 13 scientific events , having presented her work in oral communications on 5 of these events.
