I am an evolutionary ecologist working at the interface between ecology and evolutionary biology on factors allowing and maintaining phenotypic and genetic variation. Much of my research focuses on the roles of phenotypic plasticity and local adaptation in explaining phenotypic and genetic variation along environmental gradients using both phenotypic (common garden experiments) and genomic (RAD-seq, RNA-seq) methods. Within this theme, I am focusing on both large-scale (latitudinal) and small-scale climatic variation as well as other forms of environmental stress (acidification) in explaining these patterns using amphibians, fish and snails as models. More recently, I am increasingly interested on how these patterns feedback to community processes. Another major project focuses understanding the role of emerging diseases on amphibian populations and how these interact with climate and genetic constitution of the host populations. I work as a professor at Department of Ecology and Genetics and teach ca. 25-30 % of my working time at undergraduate courses Ecology, Population and community ecology, Conservation biology, Ecological methods, Faunistics and floristics, and Vertebrate faunistics, and supervise 1-3 undergraduate projects yearly. I have supervised 10 PhD students as main supervisor and 8 as secondary supervisor. I have also supervised 9 post-docs. I was the director of postgraduate studies at Department of Ecology and Genetics in 2012-2019. I have served in 42 dissertation committees in 7 countries. I have served as an advisor in 10 research councils in 9 countries, including as a member in Ecology and evolution panel of the Swedish Research council in 2016 and 2019-2020. I have served as an advisor in 9 appointments for an academic position in 4 countries. Between 2010 and 2020 I have received ca. 900 000 ¿ research funding as a PI and ca. 800 000 ¿ as a co-applicant, mainly from the Swedish Research Council and Formas Research Council. I have published 157 articles (77 2010-2021) and two book chapters which have been cited 7931 times (Google scholar 29.3.2021). My H index in Google scholar is 54. Since 2019 I am the Superintendent of laboratory animal operations at the Department of Ecology and Genetics. Since 2021 I am the vice department head at Department of Ecology and Genetics. To avoid excessive CV I have only reported funding and publications from 2010 onward as this covers my collaboration with Dr. Rebelo.
