Telma Ribeiro

Telma Ribeiro is currently an Assistant Professor at Portucalense Infante D. Henrique University. She completed her PhD in Conservation Sciences in 2021 (with the thesis: Conservation of Earth Architecture: An Approach for a New Technology), from the NOVA University of Lisbon - Faculty of Science and Technology and in partnership with the Department of Civil Engineering of the University of Minho. She completed her Master's Degree in Conservation and Restoration in 2008 (with a specialization in stone conservation) and her Bachelor's Degree in Conservation and Restoration in 2006, both from the NOVA University of Lisbon - Faculty of Science and Technology. She has participated in several specialization courses in the conservation and restoration of architectural heritage in stone and earth, organized by different national and international institutions such as ICOMOS, LNEC, and the Polytechnic University of Madrid, among others. Since 2009, she has developed her professional career as a conservator-restorer of cultural heritage, having performed several works, such as: the restoration of different national monuments (for example Casa dos Bicos, the Lisbon Cathedral, the National Palace of Queluz or the Pena Palace); mapping and diagnosis of the degradation of different materials (stone, wood, tiles, metals, and ceramics); the elaboration of the state of conservation survey of different monuments (gathering information, from the historical context to the identification of the main degradation phenomena, and definition of the intervention project) which serves as a basis for the elaboration of specifications and definition of intervention strategies; as well as the supervision of conservation and restoration works. She has published several articles in specialized journals and book chapters. She has participated in several conferences and seminars as a speaker, presenting the research work developed both in the area of stone and earthen heritage conservation. Organized a workshop on earthen construction and material characterization. She is a founding member of the Portuguese group of the international association INTBAU (International Network for Traditional Building, Architecture and Urbanism) which protects and promotes traditional architecture in Portugal.
