Vanessa Ferreira completed a PhD in Biomedicine at the University of Aveiro in March 2025. During the PhD, she worked in the Virus-Host Cell Interactions laboratory at iBiMED, under a PhD scholarship granted by Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia. Her PhD work relied on studying the interaction between peroxisomes and viruses. She completed a BSc in Biology in 2017 and MSc in Microbiology in 2019. During the MSc she was a research trainee at the Institut für Biotecnologie und Wirkstoff-Forschung (Kaiserslautern, Germany), under an Erasmus+ fellowship. The MSc thesis consisted on unravelling virulence mechanisms of fungi via functional genomics and isolation of secondary metabolites. She has published a book chapter and 1 research article as a first author, 6 articles as a co-author in international journals, and presented 7 poster communications in national and international meetings. In addition, she was invited to introduce her work in lectures to students. Her interests include microbiology, infectious diseases, molecular and cell biology.
